What's the Difference Between an Entrepreneur and a Businessman?

A lot of people are unsure what the difference is and I thought I’d take a minute and add my thoughts. It’s an important question and needs to be understood by anyone who is thinking about going into their own business.

An entrepreneur is someone who creates a business from their own unique idea and makes it work. Being an entrepreneur is more difficult because he has to identify a target market, build a unique brand that speaks to them and establish a marketing platform that reaches them with information and products that they want. This is customer focused.

The personality of an entrepreneur is that of an artist. Establishing a new business from a fresh idea is a creative process. Frequently, entrepreneurs are uncomfortable with routines and probably are not the best administrators although they can do it if forced to by the situation. Entrepreneurs enjoy the process of creating a flourishing business as much as the results.

A businessman is someone who starts a business on an existing market platform. Someone else has already come up with the successful idea. It’s just being repeated with little innovation. If it works, don’t mess with it.

The personality of a good businessman is that of a good administrator. He’s great at the daily routine of running a business. He’s usually driven by the goal of making money and the routine is important.

Routine is the basis of efficiency in management. It also makes it easier to evaluate the profitability and condition of the business through analysis and projection of the financial statements. Investors love businessmen!

A great example of people who fit these two descriptions can be found at McDonald Restaurants.

The original McDonald brothers were businessman. Their goal was to make a decent living by selling hamburgers and shakes. They were astute enough to streamline it so that it became a very efficient operation and that made them lots of money.

Ray Kroc was a salesman who made his living by selling milkshake machines. He was fascinated by the large number of machines that the McDonalds were buying and wanted to know why?

When he talked to them he realized they had a great system that was more efficient than any of their competitors but they weren’t taking advantage of the potential. They just liked making hamburgers and eventually wanted to sell the business, retire and live on the proceeds.

Ray was an entrepreneur. A light bulb went on in his head! He saw what they were doing and quickly made them an offer which they couldn’t refuse. He took his idea and their business and made billions.

He franchised new restaurants with extremely favorable terms and owned the land they sat on. He would tell people he wasn’t in the hamburger business; he was in the land development business.

He created an empire on an idea and an opportunity. He kept doing what he loved and hired administrators to run the day to day business.

Ray stayed ahead of his competition through understanding his market, building a brand and giving the people what they want with great efficiency and consistency. And, he sold a lot of franchises!

He did what all great entrepreneurs do. He looked for and saw an opportunity which triggered an inspired new idea which he used to build his perfect business.

Would You Rather Be A Brand Or A Commodity?

Brands Beat Commodities.

You either have a unique brand or a commodity that is indistinguishable from all the others out there.

People Buy Brands.

Brands have unique distinguishing attributes. They are promises that consumers believe in. People buy and pay more for brands because they relate to and trust their distinctions and promises.

Commodities Are Hard To Differentiate.

Commodities are products that are easy to replace and hard to differentiate. They are purchased because they serve a purpose. People buy them because they meet minimum standards, are available when and where they’re needed and at the lowest price.

A Brand Makes Selling Easier.

Whether you’re selling products to consumers, investment opportunities to stockholders, or ideas to constituents, a brand paves the way for success by establishing awareness of your unique and meaningful promise before you ever present your sales proposition.

As a result, when it comes time to make a sale, brand owners can concentrate on the wants and needs of the consumer rather than take up valuable time trying to explain themselves and their unique attributes.

Without a brand, you have to build a case for why you deserve the consumer’s business every single time you get ready to make a sale.

Brands Create Consumer Loyalty.

Consumers are willing to pay more to buy brands because they believe that the brand delivers outstanding and desirable benefits. They stay loyal, buying them more often, in greater volume and without the need for extra promotion.

Brands Are The Only Way To Increase Profitability.

Today’s marketplace is full of more products than ever before and overwhelmed by the selection, people choose and pay premium prices only for products they’ve heard of, trust and believe deliver higher value than the others.

If consumers think all products in a category are virtually the same and no offering is better or distinctly different from the others they simply grab whichever one is available at the lowest price. That’s a profit-squeezing reality that well known, quality brands gratefully avoid.

Brands drive consumer selection.

For the first time in history, consumers can shop and buy without any geographic limitation. The Internet and other at-home shopping options allow far-reaching access to any product, anywhere.

With a few clicks consumers find and buy products with names and promises they know and trust. In the vastness of today's marketplace brands rule and unknown products wither and blow away in ghost towns.

Brands Increase the Odds of Business Survival.

New businesses and new products are being launched at an unprecedented pace. Thousands upon thousands are introduced each year.

Only those that ride into the market on the strength of an established brand or those that are capable of building a brand name in a hurry can seize consumer awareness, understanding, and preference fast enough to survive.

The secret marketing strategy of Branding has been known and practiced by a select few companies for centuries, but it's now essential for every business to succeed  in today's crowded marketplace.

Clearly, you understand that there really is only one choice to be made.

Don't Create a Business Until You Find Your Marketable Passion

The Core of Your Successful Business Is Your Marketable Passion.

This is the foundation for a successful business. This is your brilliance. This is what makes your business stand out. This is how you truly provide real value to your customers, which is why the best businesses succeed!

Finding your marketable passion should be the first thing you do. If you rush past this, you will do so to your deep regret.

Your Marketable Passion is You, applied to the "Right Business".

This is you, totally involved. And like all passion, it involves your heart as well as your head. You love it and are excited. It turns you on....You Rock!

Here is a key point.

This is not something you're casually interested in, this is a passion that consumes you and gives your life meaning. Your Marketable Passion is something you live and breathe.

You know when you've found your Marketable Passion when you love the "process" of creating and running that particular business. It feels like what you are supposed to be doing with your life. The journey is just as important as the result. It's so enjoyable that you would do it for free if you could.

Your Marketable Passion has 3 Parts:

Your Passion; what gets you really excited. What you love to do. What you never tire of talking about. It can be a hobby or a pastime. It's what you feel you should be doing to be fulfilled in life.

Your Marketable Expertise

What do you do really well? What is your competence? And most important; what do you do really well that you can do to help others.

Your Fear Monster

This is your unconscious, self-limiting belief system. This is the fear holding you back from giving you the confidence to know that you can do it. To acknowledge that what you know is valuable to others with less experience than you. That you have the competence and credibility to become a trusted authority.

When you create a business using your brilliance and you realize that you really are helping people succeed, it will give you more and more confidence to believe in yourself. The more action you take, the more successful you will be.

When you overcome your fear barriers with your all consuming passion you will naturally attract your ideal clients. Your business success will grow exponentially.

You will become a trusted authority and it all starts with discovering your Marketable Passion.

100,000 Volts Success

100.000 Volts Success
I’d like to talk about energy.  How do you get enormous amounts of energy and how do you keep it?

The benefit is that once you have it, you can use it to help you create an amazingly successful life and financially rewarding business.

High Voltage Passion can do anything. It will turn you into a Super Person. You can leap tall building in a single bound or stop a train with your bare hands. You’re invincible. You know that anything you try will be a success.. You feel incredible.

How do you get it?

Excited, high-voltage emotions are the quickest way to get what you want. This is Passion!

When you get charged up enough, the out-come is action. You’re focused and it’s hard to distract you. When you’re after your desire, the juice flows. Then you do whatever it takes to get it. If you keep this charged up feeling, you eventually succeed.

There is a method to intentionally find and use this kind of energy in your daily life. This gives you enormous amounts of energy to accomplish your goals and live a passionate life.

This means focusing on those things and people in your life that excite you and you feel passionate about. Stop doing the things and people that drain you. Stop doing those things!

I know you find yourself in situations where you can’t do this, but it is possible to begin the process. Look for the small ways you can. Take small steps until you can make the larger changes.

Give yourself permission to do this. It’s perfectly OK to take care of yourself; then you have much more energy to take care of others. This is especially important for mothers.

You have to reprogram your thoughts and habits. For most people, life is usually run on autopilot. You train yourself to be aware and recognize when certain things and people really make you feel good and excite you. Train yourself to discover what you are totally passionate about and find ways to start living it.

This is the critical point; you have to notice the things and people that have juice. If you want to be very successful, this is where to focus your attention. You have to basically put everything else on hold.

This is not out of a feeling of superiority or ego. You can still have empathy, but if you listen to others and ignore yourself, you will hesitate or stop. Most people don’t realize how they hold each other back.

They frequently have good intentions, but out of ignorance, do damage. They don’t know that they don’t know. Focus on high energy success and you will be an example that they can follow. Transform yourself and show them that it can be done.

How do you keep it?

Once you get that high voltage passion, you have to learn how to hang on to it. There are so many things that cause you to lose it.

Like doing things you dislike or hate, or having your friends and family tell you that you’re wrong. Every person you’re around affects you either positively or negatively.

One of the biggest causes of lost energy is your work. It’s such a big deal because you spend so much time doing it and it’s a big part of who you are. Most people are doing work that is unsatisfying or worse. It’s a huge drain. You can balance this in the evening and weekends, but it does have to balance or come out ahead in your favor.

This is where you make or break your life. If you can’t change the work you do, then you must be in control of the rest of your life. Unfortunately, this rarely happens because it’s usually under the control of your sub-conscious. Life is lived in a reactive, unconscious way. The negative, unconscious thought patterns from your unfulfilling day job carries over to your home life.

The easiest way to lose your high-energy, passionate feeling for life is to live unconsciously on autopilot. You will not have any control of your life and merely react to the events and people around you.

Eventually, you won’t have any energy at all. You’ll get old……then die.

It’s critical, critical, critical that you wake up and take control of your life. You can be OK. You can be more than OK. You can be fabulously, incredibly, passionately, successfully alive!

You can have a happy life and be financially rewarded. You can have it all; you are Super Person.

Juicing Up Success

So, in preparation for this article, I have been savoring success everywhere I can find it. I looked at pictures, articles, books, blogs and advertisements about the luxuries that come with success and wealth.

I can feel the electricity. It's tingling, exciting and luxuriously soothing at the same time. What a great feeling! I could really get used to this.

So much to see and do..... Ferrari Spider,  Rolex Oyster Special Edition, Private luxury Island in the Seychelles Islands, the 118 WallyPower Super Yacht that will do 70 mph even in rough seas, Glengoyne 40 year old limited highland single malt, the most beautiful and sexy woman (or man) who wants my attention, and on......All the success symbols.

I like to feel the luxuries that life can bring us when we are successful in making money. All of the toys and things that are so much fun! They confirm for us that it's really true. We are successful. Life is good. We're on the right track. We're doing the right thing.  We have white-hot passion.

This is the unique and exhilarating feeling that overcomes us when we succeed. All of our senses delight in the pleasures of owning, having, seeing, hearing, smelling and thinking about our success.

All of our sensations combine and a wave of emotion passes through us. We are finally overcome with tears. Thank you so very much.

Success is Exhilarating!

Imagine that you’re on stage with 10,000 loyal fans in front of you screaming their lungs out. What an incredible feeling? The audience is totally juicing you. They are focusing their complete attention and emotions.

You are getting massive bursts of raw energy in sync with the music. You are getting 100,000 volt juice. What a rush!

Things That Juice Up Success

I have been paying attention to things that give us a charged feeling. The things that give juice are the things that have juice. The things that excite us are the things that are successful.   I think that everyone recognizes this on some level.

Everyone appreciates quality; it’s a measure of success. We know that things that are high-quality are successful. We can feel it. We can feel the energy that went into its creation. Success, Quality, Energy and Feeling are all connected.

This happens with possessions as well as relationships
If your stuff and relationships can't juice you, it is much harder to be successful.   There is no energy there to help you. It's like having a car that always breaks down. It deflates you.

It can still be done, but it is much harder and therefore there is more opportunity for discouragement and abandoning the pursuit of success.

Critical Steps in Getting and Keeping 100,000 Volts Success

Step 1: Recognition

Be conscious and aware at all times. Understand how you make choices. Know yourself.

Take a look at what you have and who you know.  See how they are affecting you. Decide whether they are helping you or holding you back from success.

Step 2: Choose Your Relationships

Everyone is affected by the things and people around them.
Choose relationships and stuff that have juice. Start to make changes where needed. Some relationships take longer than other to change.

Be conscious in all your new choices. Make sure they will take you where you want to go. Pay attention to the juice. Take control of the decision. You will have to live with it.

Step 3: Don’t Let Go of the Energy

Be aware of your energy. Know when you have it and when something is trying to take it away.

Take steps to correct the cause. If you can’t stop it, move away. If you can’t move away, then just be still and don’t react to the negative situation.

Focus on keeping your energy, your excitement and passion.
When you can, run…..and have fun!

Choose the World You Want To Live In

You can have high-voltage energy to create the happy, fulfilling and financially rewarding life you deserve.

Be conscious. Choose the people and things that juice you up. The longer you hang on to the passion, the stronger it gets. The universe loves to give you energy if you don’t waste it.

Think, feel and surround yourself with success.  If everything around you is successful, you will be also.

Cultivate the 100,000 volt feeling and you will have the energy to transform yourself and create a passionate, exciting, and financially rewarding life for yourself and your family.

You will be able to leap tall buildings in a single bound.

You can do it!   You can do it!     You can do it!
